God’s Green Resourceful Earth

I have been working since 2016 with the Rev. Tom Ochuka, bishop of environment and health for the Africa Inland Church in Kisumu, Kenya, to support tree planting, environmental education, and health services in his community. In 2023 we took some major steps:

First, we found a fiscal partner in Mark Lynch with Basic Needs, Simple Solutions in Indianapolis. This enabled us to apply for grants and offer opportunities for tax-deductible donations to God’s Green Resourceful Earth.

Second, because of this, we applied for and received a renewable grant from The Power of One in Indianapolis, which enabled us to expand by leasing 5 new acres as of this year.

Third, we conducted a very successful fund drive in the winter of 2023-2024 to buy a truck and expand their operations not only in tree planting and distribution but also in beekeeping and hen houses.

Fourth, we have planned a small excursion to Kisumu for this fall for me, Mark, and four other friends interested in the project in Kisumu, and are very excited. This will be my first visit since we started working together 2016, and for some it will be their first time in Kenya.

And fifth, because of all this and the rapid expansion of interest in the United States in God’s Green Resourceful Earth’s work, I started a small newsletter. I’m not very experienced in these. Actually, not at all. So it’s rudimentary and occasional. As people in the U.S. have become interested and have begun receiving this newsletter, I’ve seen the need to provide links to past mailings so they can “catch up” with us. So this page provides those links for all who are interested.

Here is the first one, Oct 12, 2023. It provides all the basics of our story and GGRE’s needs as of last fall.

Here is the second, Dec 24, 2023. It offers an update especially about our work with Umoja Partnership and their school children.

Here is the third, March 2, 2024. It announced the grant we received from The Power of One and a major lead gift to purchase a much-needed truck.

If you would like to learn more about God’s Green Resourceful Earth and our work in the Kisumu, Kenya area, here is a link to join the list for our occasional newsletter.
