I have been working since 2016 with the Rev. Tom Ochuka, bishop of environment and health for the Africa Inland Church
in Kisumu, Kenya, to support tree planting, environmental education, and health services in his community. In 2023 we took some major steps:
First, we found a fiscal partner in Mark Lynch with Basic Needs, Simple Solutions in Indianapolis. This enabled us to apply for grants and offer opportunities for tax-deductible donations to God’s Green Resourceful Earth.
Second, because of this, we applied for and received a renewable grant from The Power of One in Indianapolis, which enabled us to expand by leasing 5 new acres as of this year. The following year, 2025, and this year, 2026, we’ve received more grants from them to establish a new school lunch program called Growing Gardens, Feeding Minds.
Third, we conducted a very successful fund drive in the winter of 2023-2024 to buy a truck and expand their operations not only in tree planting and distribution but also in beekeeping and hen houses.
Fourth, I took Mark and four other friends to Kisumu in 2024, and out of that has grown an important U.S. base of support for God’s Green Resourceful Earth.
We now have a monthly newsletter, the Green Earth Gazette. You can read it here and sign up to receive it here.

There are many other ways to get involved with our work in western Kenya, and you can read about them all in the newsletters!
